U.S. Huntsville Land Office - register of patents received and delivered, 1858-1904.

Land patents were issued to individual purchasers only after a thorough check of the records revealed that all payments had been received and the records relating to the purchase were in order. The U.S. General Land Office sent the patents to district land office Registers who were responsible for delivery of the patents to the purchaser. This volume serves as a register of the patents received at the Huntsivlle Land Office. The information is recorded on a printed form and includes the number of the certificate, to whom patented, where recorded, to whom sent, the date sent and where sent. Some months are divided into homestead patents, cash patents, military land warrants, certified copies, Cherokee School lands patents, etc. The bulk of the records cover the years 1884-1904. These records document the process by which individuals purchased public lands and provide information on individual purchasers and their land.
